EP-133 To Daw

Features

  • Requires only browser with WebMIDI support
  • Export projects directly from EP-133/EP-1320/EP-40 to:
    • Ableton Live 10 or 11+ (project with samples)
    • DAWproject (project + archived samples)
    • REAPER (project with samples)
    • MIDI (MIDI file + archived samples)
  • Ableton Live:
    • Native Live 10 and Live 11+ project schemas
    • Supports sampler trimming points, stretching and playback modes
    • Export as arrangements or session clips
    • Static fader parameters and recorded fader automation, except TIM, ATK and REL
    • FX send/return
    • Track grouping: 4 groups, same as on the device
    • Automatically builds one Drum Rack per group for single-pitch pads while preserving chromatic and expressive pads as individual MIDI tracks
    • Preserves rack-pad pitch, AMP and native choke-group behavior
  • DAWproject (universal DAW format created by Bitwig):
    • Export as arrangements with clips
    • Includes archived samples
    • Track grouping: 4 groups, same as on the device
  • REAPER
    • Export arrangements
    • Basic sampler instrument has added to each track
    • Includes samples
    • Support track grouping
  • MIDI:
    • Includes archived samples
    • Any group can be exported as a Drum Rack track
  • Offline mode: Drop a .pak or .ppak backup file to browse and export projects without connecting your device
  • Works offline (Progressive Web App)

Motivation

If youve been producing with the EP-133 (or EP-1320), you already know the frustration: theres no clear way to export your projects directly into a DAW. The official EP Sample Tool only lets you manage samples and backups. Thats it.

Sure, you could record MIDI notes or capture audio track by track, but its slow, tedious, and not fun.

While exploring the backup files generated by EP Sample Tool, I discovered that the device exposes a structured internal filesystem. Projects, notes, settings, and other device data are stored in files, while the backup process simply packages this filesystem into an archive.

This opened the possibility of accessing and interpreting the device data directly. Since Teenage Engineering does not publish the implementation details or source code behind Sample Tool, I began reverse-engineering the file structures and studying the application behavior. A significant amount of work went into analyzing file formats and reconstructing the underlying logic (AI-assisted analysis proved particularly useful here).

Once these pieces were in place, the web application itself became relatively straightforward to build.
